Green lived for several years in Chicago, where he worked for the book review journal Booklist as a publishing assistant and production editor while writing Looking for Alaska. Parts of his experience inspired him to become an author, and later to write The Fault in Our Stars. He intended to become an Episcopal priest, but the traumatic experiences of working in a hospital with children suffering from life-threatening illnesses and injuries made him reconsider his path. Īfter graduating from college, Green spent five months working as a student chaplain at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, while enrolled at the University of Chicago Divinity School, although he never actually attended the school. He has spoken about being bullied and how it had made life as a teenager miserable for him. Green graduated from Kenyon College in 2000 with a double major in English and religious studies. He used Indian Springs as the inspiration for the main setting of his first book, Looking for Alaska.

The film had a lot going against it when it came to marketing and advertisement, including the fact that its source material, a Japanese comic called All You Need Is Kill, didn't have a massive following and the film's premise was relatively "high concept", meaning it wasn't easy to explain everything in a minute-long trailer.

While Disney's Maleficent wasn't quite able to soar to the top spot two weeks in a row, it only got knocked down to second, taking in $33.5 million, bringing its two-week domestic total to $127 million, which isn't too far off from its $180 million budget.
